The Benalla community has once again demonstrated its generosity with over $200,000 donated to Tomorrow Today Foundation’s grant making fund in 2015. Tomorrow Today is Benalla and districts community foundation, dedicated to building a stronger and more resilient community.

“To raise $200,000 within a year in a community of our size is quite remarkable,” said Tomorrow Today Foundation Treasurer, Adrian Aldous.  “It’s a shining example of our citizens working together, building an enduring fund that will support local projects year after year.”

As a result of the appeal the amount held in the grant making fund has now risen to $960,000. Income produced by fund investments comes directly back into Benalla and district through annual TTF grants to local community groups. Since 2003 Tomorrow Today has distributed over $160,000 in grants to 50 different community clubs and organisations.

The 2015 ‘Challenge Appeal’ featured twenty generous local sponsors, from Benalla’s private and business sector, who each committed up to $5,000 for a possible total of $100,000. The challenge made to the Benalla community was to achieve the maximum benefit by donating at least $100,000 which would be matched dollar for dollar by the pledged funds. The response from the community was outstanding with donations received by December 31 totalling $101,229 resulting in a grand total raised of $201,229.

One of the twenty sponsors who pledged $5,000 was local business Benalla Timber Products. “When I was approached, I had no hesitation in supporting the Challenge Appeal because it is run by local people for the benefit of local people,” said Managing Director of Benalla Timber Products, Gary Joyce.

Applications for 2016 TTF Grants are currently open until the end of March.  Full details can be found here.
