The Council has donated $4,242 from the Mayoral and Councillor Allowances budget to the Tomorrow Today Foundation.
“The Council is very supportive of Tomorrow Today’s work and decided to contribute $5,000 from existing 2015/16 Budget allocations – $4,242 from the Mayoral and Councillor Allowances Budget and $758 from Community Sponsorship,” said Mayor Cr Justin King.
“Organisations like the Tomorrow Today Foundation make a significant and tangible difference to our community, in their work to create a stronger, more resilient and prosperous community. They have been instrumental in implementing the Advancing Country Towns project, through the Education Benalla Program, and have partnered with the Council on a variety of important projects such as the Indigenous Garden.”
In June 2013, the Council resolved that the Mayoral and Councillor Allowances be fixed at 2.5 per cent less than the maximum amount payable and that the saving be donated to an appropriate charity as determined by the Council.
”The strong support shown by the Councillors for our Challenge Appeal is greatly appreciated,” said Tomorrow Today Foundation Chair, Sally Gamble. “This contribution brings our community fundraising tally for 2015 to nearly $80,000. And thanks to the contributions of our matching donors, double that amount will be added to the Community Fund.
“Money donated stays in the Fund permanently and generates income for grants to a broad range of Benalla and district projects. We’ve supported 50 different organisations over the years, helping enthusiastic local groups to make a difference.”
