Tomorrow Today participates in Principal for a Day

Tomorrow Today’s Sally Matheson briefly stepped out of her management role at the Foundation to become principal for a day at Benalla P-12 College as part of the 19th annual Principal For A Day event.  Aiming to increase understanding and awareness between schools and the wider community, the Principal For A Day program gives business and community leaders first-hand experience of a ‘day in the life’ of a Victorian government school principal.

Tony Clark, Executive Principal at Benalla P-12 College, said the event provides benefits for schools and business/community leaders and increases opportunities for schools and the community to work together in mutually beneficial ways. “We were excited to welcome Sally to our school and enjoyed exchanging ideas, visiting classes, talking to students, meeting staff and taking part in ‘normal’ daily activities,” said Tony.

Sally said the opportunity offered a new perspective on the valuable work of schools. “Being involved in the Principal for a Day program offered an insight into the future of education. It was terrific to see local students so engaged in their learning and teachers so enthusiastic to share the goals and aims of their classroom programs. The day enabled us to work together, share skills, and build on our ongoing relationship,” Sally said.

Principal For A Day is funded by Bastow Institute of Educational Leadership and delivered by the Australian Council for Educational Research (ACER).
