The tree is up at Ray White Benalla and donations of children’s toys and gifts are already starting to roll in as the 2024 Christmas Cheer campaign ramps up to support more Benalla residents in need this festive Season.
Peter Symes from Ray White Benalla was confident that Benalla will rise to the challenge, “These kinds of things really bring the best out in people. We’ve seen the community really support each other when times are tough. With the cost of living on the rise, we want to make sure that every child and young person has something under the tree this Christmas. We welcome any donation, it doesn’t matter what it is, it all helps.”
The annual collaboration between Ray White Benalla and Tomorrow Today to distribute donated toys has expanded to include food hampers in partnership with the Salvos.
Captain Ben Anderson, from Benalla Salvation Army estimated that around 300 families would require assistance this year to put food on the table on Christmas Day and beyond. “Each year we see an increase in the number of people who require assistance. We love to see those really special Christmas things being donated but also non-perishable items are really great to make sure that people have some food in the cupboard for next couple weeks after Christmas.”
Recently Benalla Rural City Council joined as a partner in the program to provide a venue to distribute donated items. Jodie Fleming, Executive Officer at Tomorrow Today, welcomed the new partner; “Having the Council on board means we will be able to distribute food hampers from a venue that is easily accessible for people.”
“We know that Benalla is a generous community, we see it every day. So, I encourage all those that can, to donate to this year’s Christmas Cheer campaign. Donations of food items, vouchers to purchase from local stores, cash and gift cards are all welcome, as are toys and games. Together we can make this Christmas special for everyone.”
