After a successful event in November last year, Tomorrow Today’s Full Impact Squad is gearing up for another spring clean!
Last year the Squad was joined by over 45 local volunteers to scour Benalla’s lake, parklands and town centre, to pick up refuse and waste. They filled six large Council bins with rubbish, and retrieved two shopping trolleys and a washing machine.
Squad member Kayleigh, is enthusiastic about this year’s clean, “This year we hope to have even more volunteers join us so we can cover even more of Benalla. After the flooding last week we want to help Benalla look its best for the Festival in November.”
The Full Impact Squad are old hands at organising community events these days, so planning this one has been easier than the first time round. “Benalla Spring Clean was the first event we ever did, so we had to learn how to do everything from booking equipment, designing posters, ordering things for the BBQ and talking to the Council, Scouts and Goomalibee Landcare Group. This time it feels a bit easier,” says Kayleigh.
The 2022 Benalla Spring Clean was such a great success the Squad was shortlisted for the Tidy Towns & Cities Awards in the Young Legends Category.
“I’m so incredibly proud of the Squad,” said Alex Ross, Tomorrow Today’s Youth Engagement Coordinator. “Just the fact they have been nominated is a testament to them. This group of young people inspire me every day with their passion for Benalla and the community.”
Volunteers of all ages are welcome to help out at the 2023 Benalla Spring Clean.
