You may have caught the Ensign’s front page in March showing a happy group of teens in hi-vis at the Benalla Lakeside Craft and Farmers Market, fundraising for buildings damaged during the devastating freak storm Benalla weathered in February. Tomorrow Today’s Full Impact Squad wanted to contribute in a meaningful way to assist in the repair work. So, in February and March, they raised money by selling handmade beeswax wraps, pancake spaghetti, spiders and ran a guessing competition at their stall at the market.
Over the last couple of weeks, the Squad shared the fruits of their labour with two local organisations. A cheque for $302.65 was given to Geoff Hill and Garry Harper from the Benalla Saints Sports Club to assist with the rebuilding of the kiosk at the football field on Arundel St.
Another cheque for the same amount was presented to Nancy Burgess and Gavin Harrison from Benalla’s Uniting Church Council. President, Gavin Harrison was grateful for the contribution, “The storm took off the entire roof and damaged some of the brickwork at the top of the church hall. We’re very pleased to receive this contribution to its repair.” Secretary, Nancy Burgess added that it was great to see young people wanting to assist their local community, “What an amazing group of young people – they should be very proud of their fundraising efforts.”
